I haven't had much time the past 10 days to post anything, and I will post (in semi detail at least) Aidan's birth story soon, but I wanted to get a post in with some pictures of Aidan Jessie McCartney.
Here are her stats:
December 20th, 2011
5:26pm
6 pounds 1 oz
19 inches
And here are some pictures (these are all iphone pictures)
Aidan's nurse (LaJunta) made this hat for her
Look at the Colin cheeks on this girl!!
Santa came to visit Aidan when she was only 4 days old...she's a really good girl
Please bring me presents, please bring me presents, please bring me presents
Aidan got a book for Christmas!
Santa's Elf
Here we are at about 2 am, we're both really sleepy
After a day of shopping at Northpark. It's a rough life...
Well, we've got a brick, but we don't have a baby...yet.
Colin guessed Aidan would arrive last Tuesday. Wrong. I guessed last Friday. Wrong.
We go into see our Dr tomorrow afternoon, and she'll decide when she's going to induce me since baby Aidan is still measuring small. It will be either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday of next week (hopefully) so we should be back at home for Christmas!! What an awesome present.
So, instead of a baby this week, we got a brick. We actually signed up for one of these awhile ago, but this week White Rock Lake dedicated a new part of the lake.
So now, we own White Rock Lake. That's right. We own it. I know, it's beautiful. You're welcome.
It was Colin's idea to put "On Every Street." My vote was "Team Hairy Knuckles." He's more of a romantic than I am...and he's classier.
Well, this week marks 9 months of pregnancy, and it makes me really happy to know that there aren't many more days we'll have to spend without Aidan. Most of the time Aidan likes to gut punch and kick me which makes me cringe because every time she does I can see the "my kid is going to be a soccer player" twinkle in Colin's eye. Ug, I really hate soccer. Maybe she's just practicing her high kicks for a life of a dancer or gymnast.
We've spent the past few weeks (not blogging) but getting ready for Christmas. I move at about the pace of a snail these days so what normally would take me a couple of hours, takes me a couple of days. Alright, maybe it's not that bad.
Here are a few pictures from the past few weeks.
Maize being lazy and pinning me down
The prettiest dog in Casa Linda
Maize in the holiday spirit (you can see it in his eyes)
I could sleep for 10 hours a night at this point. Ok, sometimes I do sleep 10 hours a night at this point. And I love every second of it.
It's getting colder out there, and all I want to do is this
(Toby)
Or this
(Maize and Maggie)
Maggie will never go anywhere without this pumpkin toy she's had for 2 years
Phreddy is always down for a nap if I want one
And just for good measure - Maize and Toby
Grumpy Old Men
Ok, I thought I'd try to throw in at least one more dog post before Aidan gets here because I'm sure it's going to be all about her at that point.
On another note, I locked our keys in the car last night leaving Snuffer's on Greenville which I thought was impossible when you have a "smart key." No worries though because Gerard came to the rescue, and Colin and I were full from the loaded cheese fries we had just ate so it wasn't that big of a deal. Moral of the story - when you have soup at home to make, go ahead and make it instead of being really horrible and eating CHEESE FRIES for dinner.
The last picture is hung, and now I can say that Aidan's room is complete. All I'm waiting for is a toy box that's going to go under the window, but who knows when that's going to be ready so I'll go ahead and post some pictures.
Colin and I are really happy with how her room turned out. It's peaceful and soft...exactly how we wanted it to be. And now, all we need is a baby.
Here goes - hope you like it!
"No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you. After all, you're the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside."
I think we should change the name of Thanksgiving to Thankstaking. Do I really even "give" anything at Thanksgiving anyways? Nah, I take. I take all the food my mom cooked, and I eat it.
And then I go in for Round 2 at about 7pm, and it looks a little somethin' like this
And then I wash it down with a little of this
And then I go stand outside and watch all the guys plays football with this
(the official Thanksgiving day football - winners get to sign it...Is your husband's name on this ball every year? Huh, mine's is...just sayin')
And that's where I leave you today, still stuffed, tired, and just a few pounds heavier. Eatin' for two has never been so yummy.
I don't know if it's the hormones, if it's the excitement that I'm feeling about becoming a mother, or if it's just that Colin and I are in a really good place right now, but I'm feeling extra lovey dovey. So much of becoming a parent (so it seems) is structured around the stress that we'll feel once our lives have been changed by a new baby, but I want to take a few minutes to share my experience with the other side.
Colin and I went to eat lunch Sunday, and we sat next to a family of four. A couple of times throughout the meal, the dad really jumped in and parented. It was just silly things, but for example his 3 year old son was dipping his french fry in the ketchup and instead of eating the fry, he was just licking the ketchup off as if the fry was the utensil and the nurishment was the tomato sauce. After a few times of this, the dad piped up and said, "Buddy, take a bite. Come on," in a frustrated but patient tone. It might sound silly, but I immediately looked at Colin and couldn't wait for him to say something like that. I'm excited for him that he'll be able to soon enough. He's waited long enough, he's put in his time.
Colin is going to be a great dad. And I'm sure (or I hope) that most women feel this way about their partner going into parenting, but I do believe that Colin will be one of the best.
Aidan is a lucky girl. I am a lucky girl.
And so here are a few music videos (what are those anymore) that reflect the lovey dovey cheesiness that I feel for Colin.
Mat Kearney - Closer to Love
(Song of hope for the future)
Landon Pigg - Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop
(This song immediately takes me back to the winter of '08 when we were just falling in love)
Dire Straits - On Every Street
(I named my blog after this song. It was the song that I walked down the aisle to at our wedding. This song makes me cry every time I hear it.)
And because it's so very true, Ben Folds - The Luckiest
(Colin made this video of us - it reminds me of what's important)
So clearly I am the luckiest. Hopefully you made it through all that cheese unharmed. I promise to return to my regular sarcastic self soon, but for today I'll bask in the lovey dovey.
Indian food, baby shower #4, and Maggie's 2nd birthday. Whew.
I'm pretty wiped out these days, and it seems like the closer we get to Aidan's arrival, the more stuff we have to do.
This weekend I learned how to make Chicken Tikka Masala. I've never made Indian food (other than basic curry dishes), and I'm loving everything spicy these days so I thought I'd take the plunge and make something new Friday night. It turned out great.
The chicken and the sauce
Curried cauliflower
The final product with dill yogurt sauce - YUMMY!!
Wow, those pictures are making me hungry. But then again, what doesn't make me hungry these days? Dang baby!! :)
And then on Saturday I had my last baby shower hosted by some of my mother-in-law, Olivia's, church friends. I had met some of these ladies over the past few years, but there were quite a few new faces in the crowd as well. Everyone was very friendly and generous, and we had a great time.
And now it's 100% confirmed - Aidan is already spoiled. As if I didn't already know this...
So today is little Maggie's 2nd birthday. We took her and Maize to the pet store to pick out some new Kookies (toys) and to get some treats. After they sniffed everything in the store that could possibly be sniffed and scared the kittens that are up for adoption, we took a walk around the corner at White Rock Lake. I'm generally always happy to live so close to the lake, but today was a perfect, cool fall day that made me extra appreciative to live so close.
If we were going to send out a Christmas card this year (which we're not), this would have been the money shot.
This time my shower was thrown by the greatest girlfriends anyone could ask for:
- The ever fashionable Elizabeth Midgett - you need help picking wedding shoes, call this girl, her shoes were AMAZING!!
- Some might call her Kristen Wiig, but I call her Stephanie Fine the skinny funny hot mama
- The most popular girl in Dallas (because she's probably the friendliest girl in Dallas) Stephanie Taylor
- We hope she moves back from Denver sooner rather than later Nicole Bosworth
- Our favorite mini friend who is about to get hitched Meredith Myers
- You remember Babo "the baby whisperer" Neubach who still calls Aidan "CC" - she doesn't give up easily
- And last but certainly not least the nicest mean girl I know Amy Rodriguez, my forever partner in sarcasm and girl I always want to sit next to at a bar for commentary
I mean, can these girls get any prettier? And more perfect? The answer: No.
Here are a few more shots of the day:
The onesie "bar" - the closest I'm getting to a bar these days
My great friend Julie Segar and best friend Melissa Spencer
Yummy flavors!!
Cute outfit, Steph
Now Aidan and Steph have the same outfit - thanks Jessie!!
If you're single and in the LA area, watch out for this one - just sayin'
My beautiful sister and Aidan's favorite aunt, Jessie
So glad this group came too! Katie Lane, Lauren Berryman, Shannon Dalton, and of course Jess
All in all the shower was a major success, and I couldn't be more thankful for this great group of women. Aidan is going to have so many "aunts" that she can call on for advice, help, or just a chat if she needs it. I know these girls would do anything for her already.
